Butterfly Conservatory
Located in the small town of El Castillo, just 30km from La Fortuna is the largest Butterfly Conservatory in Costa Rica. Here you will learn about a butterfly’s anatomy, life cycle, diet and habitat. You have the chance to see and take photos of many butterflies such as zebra longwings, small postmans, monarchs and blue morphos. There are six large atrium habitats housing plants, trees, frogs and butterflies found within the four micro-climates surrounding Lake Arenal. You will also tour their laboratories, reproduction greenhouses, exotic frog habitat, host plant gardens, orchid exhibit. The conservatory is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm.
